Open Call: Artangel has issued an international open call for work that can be experienced in a digital space by the entire world. Artists are invited to submit their biggest, most ambitious ideas for consideration. Deadline for entry is April 30.


Open Call: MIT Media Lab and The Noun Project are currently accepting submissions for the first Rewarding Disobedience Award. A prize of $250k will be awarded to a person or group who demonstrate responsible disobedience that challenges present norms. Deadline for nominations/submissions is May 1.


Residency: Elsewhere Studios in Paonia, Colorado has an open call to experimental photographers for an opportunity to participate in a fully funded residency. Photographers working in experimental techniques such as Multiple Exposure and Intentional Camera Movement are encouraged to apply. Artists in residence are responsible for their own food, supplies, and miscellaneous expenses. The residency takes place during the last trimester of 2017 and deadline for submission is May 1.


Residency: Can Serrat in Spain is accepting applications for residency. One fully funded and multiple aided residency applicants will be invited to spend two months working in a visual arts field. Private accomodation is available. Deadline for applications is May 1.


Residency: Allenhead Contemporary Arts offers mid-week rural escape residencies in Northumberland, England. Artists can choose from a number of inexpensive accommodation options and can also add additional tutelage in disciplines such as astro-photography. There are multiple residency periods. Current deadline is May 8 for mid-June residency. There is no fee to apply. Participants are responsible for travel expenses and personal expenses.


Open Call : Curatorial Opportunity Program has issued an open call for those interested in their 2017 programming. The program is based out of New Art Center in Newton, Massachusetts with opportunities at several locations. Those selected receive a $1,000 stipend and support services from the organization. Electronic applications only, no fee to apply, deadline for submissions is June 3.


Open Call For Donation: D’art for Art is an annual event to benefit Crooked Tree Arts Center. Presently there is an open call for artists interested in donating a piece of art to this fundraising event. In exchange for donation, artists receive a listing in the D’art for Art full color catalog including contact info and up to three gallery listings where exhibits can be found. Donating artists also receive invitations to special events leading up to the gala. Deadline for entry is June 23.

Mayor Bill de Blasio ups the ante in the fight over the fearless girl

The latest round in the fight over Wall Street’s Fearless Girl came as Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted his support of the bronze statue in defiance of complaints made by Arturo Di Modica, the sculptor behind the Wall Street bull. Di Blasio accused Di Modica of sexism and reaffirmed his decision to extend the run of the Fearless Girl another two weeks.


Carolee Schneemann receives lifetime achievement award at Venice Biennale

Known for her pioneering work in feminist performance art, Carolee Schneeman has received the Golden Lion Award for lifetime achievement. Some of Schneeman’s best known works include Meat Joy and Interior Scroll.
