Upcoming grant deadline
Awesome Foundation offers monthly micro-grants of $1000 to fund “awesome ideas” areas ranging from the arts to technology. There are chapters all over the world to which grant seekers can submit. Deadline is rolling.
Open Calls, Residencies, News Digest and Research Sources
Open Call : Curatorial Opportunity Program has issued an open call for those interested in their 2017 programming. The program is based out of New Art Center in Newton, Massachusetts with opportunities at several locations. Those selected receive a $1,000 stipend and support services from the organization. Electronic applications only, no fee to apply, deadline for submissions is June 3.
Submissions are being accepted for the Alfred Fried Photography Award. The subject of this year’s competition is Peace. A prize of 10,000 Euros will be awarded to the winning photographer. The Children Peace Image of the Year carries a prize of 1,000 Euros awarded to the winning photographer aged 14 or under. There is no fee for entry and artists may submit more than one image. Deadline for submissions is June 4.
Commercio Metalli Latina, an Italy-based aluminum trading company, are currently inviting artists to take part in their 2017 contemporary art competition. The title of this year’s competition is The Sinuosity of Aluminum. Artists are asked to work with the medium of aluminum in order to create a piece that “arouses the emotion of music.” This is a juried show. The winner receives 3,500 euros. Deadline for submissions is June 15.
Open Call For Donation: D’art for Art is an annual event to benefit Crooked Tree Arts Center. Presently there is an open call for artists interested in donating a piece of art to this fundraising event. In exchange for donation, artists receive a listing in the D’art for Art full color catalog including contact info and up to three gallery listings where exhibits can be found. Donating artists also receive invitations to special events leading up to the gala. Deadline for entry is June 23.
Artists are invited to visually represent the man and the music of Fryderyk Chopin. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute has run the annual contest since 1927. Artists may submit up to three drawings and cash prizes are awarded to first through third place winners. Deadline for submission is June 30.

Baslquiat Breaks Records at Sotheby’s
A painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat sold for a record shattering pricetag at Sotheby’s on May 18. The painting far surpassed the anticipated $60 million pricetag set by auctioneers.
